It’d be nice if anyone can start a group DM. For my use case, I think I’d want anyone to be able to start a group DM but the group DM should include me (i.e., group DMs that don’t include me don’t exist in the space), but that’s more unique to my current use case and not wanting to pay for messages on my SP plan so that groups can converse on my dime, as much as desired. I may change my mind there as my use cases evolve, but that’s how I feel right now.
Related to group DMs, Gavin Hammar, I’d hope that the new 1:1 space feature announced a few days ago will be able to accommodate a group DM. It’s common for me to coach couples together, so having a private way to do that (instead of in a broader space) would be helpful.

I believe Group DMs should be at the top of the priority list, if possible. Our use case is to create small groups (we call them pods) for more intimate conversations. For our community, this is a major need for us to be able to scale. Group DMs are also more nimble than formal campfires.

For those following this feature, if you can include in your comment how permissions should work (e.g. should members be able to start a group DM with anyone or can only admins and moderators add people to a group convo), that would be super helpful 🙏.

Gavin Hammar: My recommendation would be that any member could start a group DM just like in Slack
